Spiritual Book Study

Spiritual Book Study

A group for the discussion of books that have content related to Divine Principle.

Location: Yelm, Washington
Members: 6
Latest Activity: Jul 11, 2011

We will be looking at different spiritual texts and how they compliment and or illustrate Divine Principle. As Father has said, Divine Principle is the bones of the truth and there are many books with principled content that we can learn from. Please share your favorite quote or describe a book that you feel conveys Principle. It could be a novel that conveys truth or a book on Quantum Physics or perhaps a self help guide.

Hi, I just wanted to share with you a little bit of humor that I dreamed up and put into a comic strip. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did making it!

check it out here:

Pam, as it turns out that is not a book I am familiar with. (but then I thought I was well read until I owned a bookstore;) If you were inspired I would welcome a short review of the book which could be as complete as you want or just a few quotes or impressions that you have. Otherwise I will just keep a lookout for it.

We are just getting started here but eventually we need to discuss the direction of the group and possible goals. Nadya gave a nice over view of a recent Small Group Leadership webinar elsewhere on the site and I am considering those points regarding our group.

Hi Rose Ann, welcome! Yes I am with you on that. There are so many books that illustrate a part of Gods heart, and often the authors paid for their insights with blood, sweat and tears. I truly feel that when we acknowledge that we build bridges philosophically that will lead people to Principle.

Regarding my schooling I guess it never came up in our conversations, but I finished the school about four years ago (The Northwest School of Healing) then Janice attended graduated just last spring. Janice said her main reason in attending was so we could have a common language to do process work with and I have a lot of gratitude that she chose to go through it as it has begun to transform our relationship and help to deepen our study of Divine Principle.

I do occasionally do formal healing work and am open to doing more. For the most part however I view my bookstore as my healing space. Its interesting the people that walk in my door. (certainly, not all are looking for books;)

Hi Bob thanks for sharing this I can relate to your experience there and I know exactly what you book that gave me a lot of inspiration is The Gentle Art of Blessing by Pierre Pradervand ...I am sure you will have heard of it....

Hey Bob,
Thanks for starting this group! I am a spiritual book junkie. I think God is working through many people and many authors to wake us up to experience Him/Her in our daily lives.
Congrats on completing Barbara Brennan's training! Are you practicing now?
Greetings to your family!

Interesting. I know that at least for at least some people its not organized religion specifically but organization in general that they object to. Some just prefer to connect to God through nature or meditation. As we know that feels safer and is limited in how much we can grow heartistically. When you work with others I think you must raise the level of the group and people can get impatient. Also I know for me being around others mirrors my own shortcomings sometimes;)

I recall doing a prayer walking condition years ago in portland. It was a desperate time for me and I had rich prayers as I walk through the neighborhood. I started to notice that when I suddenly ran into people on the street I felt God leave instantly. At the time I assumed it was because they were "low spirit" people and therefore God left. As I developed my spirit and grew a little I came to the conclusion that it was a limit of my heart to carry the presence of God in the midst of other people. In energy healing terms You might say that my Energy field strength was too low to bridge the gap and carry Gods spirit to those people.

there was an interesting programme on tv where people who don't belong to any church or group agreed to go along and practice a silent meditation with some monks at a Catholic order over a specific length of time ...all participants shared positive spiritual awakenings and realisation that matched those of the priests but all said they wanted nothing to do with the Church as they felt established Churches were constrictive and had caused too many problems..The priest expressed his sadness about this

I know well what you are talking about, Pam. I hope our movement has become large enough to embrace some of the more spiritual groups out there. or non-groups as it were. We often get people in the bookstore who have deep a deep belief in God but would not name him that due to being wounded by conversations Christians. Well, it takes time to bring people together...

thanks for starting the group Bob...there is a wealth of material on this subject and many people are more open to spirituality as a subject of discussion in preference to religion as the word religion conjurs up negative connotations for many which is a recent speech an ex police chief put it like this
'“The greatest achievements and ambitions of human social history, such as the abolition of slavery and the provision of universal education or free health care for all have had their origins in religious impulse. This is not the image of religion in this past century or this past decade,” ' He then went onto give examples why religion has gotten itself a bad name.
I find this often when trying to witness.
